The Thanksgiving Story by Andres Garcia

Since the Europeans(the pilgrims)came to the United States, they have been welcomed and helped by the Indians. The pilgrims came on November 1620 many were sick, tired, and cold. The pilgrims came on a ship known as the Mayflower. They needed homes so they went to work and started cutting down trees. In the winter they were all cold and they had almost had gone out of food. Many of them didn't make it before summer. Luckily for them a group of Indian's came, they help them how to catch fish, claims, and to hunt deer, but that wasn't all the Indian's thought them. They even showed them how to plant corn and many other vegetables. The Indian's knew how to speak English, they knew because many fishermen and traders thought them how to talk English. An Indian named Squanto communicated with the pilgrims. he told them every thing like how to survive, and hunt. One day in the fall the pilgrims harvest their corn crops, they would fill their baskets with lots of vegetables. They gather everything for the up coming winter. The pilgrims were all happy because of their great fortune, so on a special day they to give thanks for all the things they had. The Indian's joined them and they sat around a table and they ate turkey, venison(deer meat), clams, fish, cranberry sauce, and many other things. Their feast only lasted about three days. They called the day "Thanksgiving". So thanksgiving became a tradition. When Abraham Lincoln became president, he made Thanksgiving a national holiday all over the United States. Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on November the 24th on the fourth Thursday.

Many people celebrate thanksgiving in many different ways. some celebrate it from tradition, but others celebrate it in their own ways. Many people go to parades and other activities. Some have cookouts, and they invite families or neighbors to join them. Some have parties, or many other things they can come up with. Some people don't get to celebrate thanksgiving, the reason why they don't get to celebrate thanksgiving is because some people may have work to do, or because they don't have any time for the holiday. Their are many reasons why many people don't celebrate thanksgiving.

Why do we celebrate thanksgiving? we celebrate thanksgiving because we are giving thanks for the things we have. Thanksgiving has been around for a long time ever since the pilgrims came, and had a feast with Squanto and his people. We also celebrate thanksgiving because it is a national holiday, and because many people need to spend more time with their families. That's why we have thanksgiving for we are thankful for our families, friends, everyone on this planet, and for the things we have. We need to celebrate thanksgiving every year because thanksgiving is the day we give thanks.

Thanksgiving is a harvest festival celebrated Pilgrim. Thanksgiving is through out the United States and Canada. Here in the United States are celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada, thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October. Where was the first thanksgiving celebrated, and what happen after thanksgiving? The first thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth in 1621. When the pilgrims had there harvest done, they picked up all the corn and the other vegetables. The Indians joined them, too. They celebrated Thanksgiving for three days , and that's when they decided to call it "Thanksgiving".

The history of thanksgiving has been for a very long time ever since the pilgrims and Indians had their big feast. How did Squanto know that the Pilgrims had arrived there, and why did he help them. My suggestion is that Squanto learn how to talk like them was when he talked to fishermen and traders, and he helped them cause he might have seen them suffering from the cold and that they were hungry. So he decided to help them. The real thing was that Squanto was once captured by traders and then set free, and moved to England. When Squanto was in England he became homesick, his friends tried to find a way to send him back to America. Squanto had traveled the Atlantic ocean four times just to be disappointed, because his tribe had died a of a disease. Even though he went to another village with another tribe. Squanto then saw the pilgrims and there he helped the pilgrims hunt deer, catch fish and claims, and the most important how to plant corn. Once the other tribe left Squanto decided to stay with the pilgrims because they had plenty of food and other many things.

People have many ways to celebrate thanks giving. How do you celebrate thanksgiving? I celebrate my thanksgiving just by spending time with my family and having cook outs and many other things. Do you spend time with you family on thanksgiving? Like i said before many people celebrate thanksgiving many different ways. Some go by tradition and others come up with a new tradition. When people grow up they want to do different things for thanksgiving and many other holidays. They do this so when they have kids they want them to celebrate it very different from tradition. While others want their kids to celebrate it by tradition.

Is their still pilgrims alive today? the answer is yes. Their is only one still living today. Their is still one living in Plymouth. Many people can visit their and learn on how the pilgrims used to live and they can here how they passed their lives while they traveled on the mayflower and what they did when they landed in the united states of America. Many people can learn how the pilgrims learn to survive in the winter and how they got food. Many people visit their as a site, just to look around and enjoy the views.

When thanksgiving comes many people get days of, most stores are closed, and schools are closed for those days. So i guess that means "NO SCHOOL". The holiday doesn't last long only about three days including the weekends. So remember when you have thanksgiving parties and many other things to, remember to thank for the things you have and for the wonderful family you've got. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Happy Thanksgiving

In November 1620 is when the Europeans or the Pilgrims arrived on Plymouth, Ma. The Europeans were cold, sick, and tired from the 65 days of the long trip across the Atlantic Ocean in the ship The MAYFLOWER. The people didn't have houses, so they needed to cut down trees to make their houses. In the Winter the day and night were very cold. As a result, many Pilgrims died before the Summer started. The food they had brought from England was all most gone.
Luckily, friendly Indians showed the Pilgrims how to catch fish and clams, and showed them where to hunt for deer. In the fall, they harvested their corn crops. They filled baskets with vegetables, and more baskets with corn for the falling winter. The Pilgrims were happy and decided on a special day to give thanks for their good fortune. The Indians joined them and ate on long wooden tables. Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November.

In the United States, the American people honor their veterans with parades and speeches.Special services are held in every part of the country, but very special services are held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

On November 11,1921,the body of an unknown American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington,Virginia. We call this place the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The soldier who was buried in Arlington National Cemetery was killed in World War I.No one knows who he was. That is why he is called the Unknown Soldier.

The American people are not honoring just one unknown soldier at the tomb. They are honoring all members of the United States armed services,a soldier guards this famous memorial both day and night. The following words are on the Unknown Soldier tomb.

" HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY ,AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN

Veterans Day By Andres Garcia Alvarez at HMS

Armistice day known as "Veterans Day". Veterans Day happens too be on the 11 of November. Veterans Day used to be called Armistice Day until president Eisenhower changed it to Veterans Day. Many people celebrated Veterans Day by parades and going to funerals. The reason why people go to funerals is cause many people who served during the war died. That's why we got Veterans Day, to thank those who served during the war. once Veterans Day was changed on the fourth Monday of October, but the congress changed it back to November 11. many people thought that world war 1 was suppose to end all wars, but that dream had been shattered when world war 2 started. Many soldiers died in the great war, about 400,000 died in the war.

The 5 u s.c establishes the federal holidays New years, The birth of Martin Luther King, JR. Washington's birth day, memorial day, independence day, labor day,Columbus day, veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. many people do not get to celebrate this holidays because some may not have a home or a family to celebrate them with. some do get to celebrate them as a family. Most families don't get to celebrate this holidays because most of their parents have work.

On veterans day everyone gets to celebrate veterans day. The reason why they get to celebrate it is because every thing is closed on that day. Banks, schools, and many other stores closed on that day. So kids, parents, and other relatives join together and have cook out and parties. some people go to the soldiers graveyards and say prayers and thank them for their sacrifices they made for their country, but were do they keep their graves at? they keep them at the Arlington national park cemetery.

One day the united states and other countries buried an unknown soldier at the highest point. they buried them to represent that the great war was over and was suppose to and all wars. Unfortunately their dreams had been shattered when war broke out in Europe. thee united states sent half a billon of soldiers and more than four thousand came back. That when world war 2 broke out.

Many american are not honoring the unknown soldier, they are honoring all the mambers of the U.S armed service. They are always going to honor those who served during the wars. No one who is died should be left out, they all should be honored and givin the thanks. A soldier gaurds the famous memorial both day and night.

That's why we celebrate Veterans Day every November 11. .Here is what most people say:

Here rests in honored glory, an American soildier known but to God

Halloween tips and history By: Zaira Sandoval Holmes Middle School 6 Grade

For thousands of years people have been celebrating different holidays and festivals at the end of October. It started around the 1800's. The modern observances of Halloween are more recent than one might expect. The holiday had rebirth in North America between the late 19Th and early 20Th centuries, probably through an influx of Irish immigrants. They brought with them traditions that combined features of the Celtic and Christian holidays, and celebrated with feasting, divination's and mischief making. Jack O' lanterns and trick or treating in costume both became Halloween fixtures in North America, and have since been exported.

Even more exciting was the evening before, Halloween. On this night people thought the ghost and withes, black cats, bats, and owls came. The people believed in ghosts withes. They built fires on the mountains to keep them away.

The history of halloween By Andres Garcia

For thousands of years England has celebrated Summers end. They thanked the sun for a good harvest.Fruits, and vegetables were used to decorate the huts.Scarecrows were used to protect their fields from birds. Back in the old times people believed in ghost and witches, so to stay protected they made fires on top of the mountains.form this day on most kids put on mask or make up just for fun, that way they no one would fine out who they are when they go trick-or-treating.
Once when European settled in America they had brought their costumes along with them. Back in 1800s America was filled with immigrants. Once people had been dressing up for Halloween, people decided to make Halloween a holiday. Now Halloween is celebrated by parties parades and many other stuff.

In Mexico people don't call it Halloween, they call it "El dia de los muertos", which means "the day of the dead". People in Mexico celebrate Halloween different from the united states. They celebrate it by making skulls out of clay, but the only thing they have in common is that in Mexico and the united states celebrate it by parades and parties. In Mexico they the clay skulls and flowers over the dead, and they hold candles in their hands.

Halloween is celebrated on the 31 of October, every year. Many parents let their children go with other adults, while they stay home and give other children treats. Some parents also dress up too, because they don't to be left out,or just trying to protect their children. Its vary important to keep and i on your children at all times. Some people go as a family, all together, parents and children. Some parents may have a older son or doughier to take care of the young ones.

Many people put on make up and try to look like vampires, witches, and many other things. Some people prefer to put on mask. Some people also buy or make their Owen costumes. One of the most popular costumes is a witch, ghost, and vampire. So how do people know when Halloween starts?

Halloween starts near the evening all the way to the night. Some prefer in the night, because some older children try to scare other people, and the one who scares might end up getting scared. Most grown ups give out candy, but sometimes they leave the candy out on the porch. Some people leave their candy on scarecrows, but one may not know is that the scarecrow might be the owner. Now, when someone comes by and pick up the candy, the owner may try to scare the children and adults.

Many children dress up, ,and go house to house and say "trick-or-treat".Parents even dress up to,they would join their children or go to parties. Some times parents cut out pumpkins before Halloween. Some pumpkins could look scary or funny, people call it a jack-o-lantern. People put a candle inside the jack-o-lantern so every one can see it in the dark.the very first jack-o-lantern was made in 1750. It takes times to make a pumpkin in to a jack-o-lantern.

The first thing you have to do is cut the top off the pumpkin(a round circle), and the take out the seeds in it, mostly clean out every thing in it. Then you have to give it a face. It could be scary, funny, or sad, it depends on what kind of face you want to give it. After you done that put a candle in it so it could light up all night. Parents be sure if your going to show you children please be sure that they don't get cut, just be safe when children are around. Thank you.
