In November 1620, the pilgrims came to what is now the United States aboard a small cargo ship, the Mayflower,the days the first feast of celebration of Thanksgiving was in October1621 ,Wampanoags and colonists shavenison,duck,turkey,clams,shellfish,corn pudding pumpkin,dried berries and other local edibles.

The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 to commemorate the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony after a harsh winter. In that year Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving. The colonists celebrated it as a traditional English harvest feast, to which they invitedthe indians. it can be stressful, unless you are part of the perfect family or lucky enough to simply have to show up to a dinner where everyone is happy to see you, serve you, give you the big comfy recliner and let you watch football all day. Most of us face traveling through the holiday rush, dealing with family members we pretend we’re not related to the rest of the year and cooking enormous amounts of food that no one really needs to eat.

The legacy of thanks, and particularly of the feast, have survived the centuries as people throughout the United States gather family, friends, and enormous amounts of food for their yearly Thanksgiving meal.
