Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a traditional North American holiday, and is a form of harvest festival . In November 1620, the Pilgrims landed in America. They were cold, tired, and sick from their long trip across the Atlantic Ocean in their ship - the Mayflower .The climate was cold and they did not have houses or anything . As a result, many of Pilgrims died before the summer came.
Luckily, In 1621, The year Samoset, an Abnaki Indian from Mannie, walked into the Pilgrim' village shouting " Welcome, Englishmen ! " . He had learned broken English previous contact with fishermen and traders. Through Samost , the Polgrims met Squanto, who taught them to use fish as fertilizer when planting corn, pumpkins and beans . They also showed them how to catch fish, hunt deer . The Wampanoag had organized government and religion and were able farmers, fishermen, hunters and gatherers, so the tribe had ample and varied food.
They called it as thanksgiving and Abraham Lincoln became a president . He made it a holiday for the whole country . Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November .
