People rang the church bells, played music, and listened to a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

In 1783, Moravians in Salem, North Carolina, held the first celebration of the Fourth of July in the country with a challenging music program assembled by Johann Friedrich Peter. This work was titled "The Psalm of Joy".

July 4 written by Viridiana Valderrama

The original Declaration has now faded badly.

July 4 is America's birthday. On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed. The thirteen colonies no longer belonged to England. Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States of America commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the war ended in 1783, July 4 became a holiday in some places. But, In 1941 July 4 officially became a legal holiday. The task begun on July 4, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, was not actually completed until August. Nonetheless, the 4 of July has been accepted as the official anniversary of United States independence from Britain. By the early 1800s the traditions of parades, picnics, and fireworks were firmly established as part of American Independence Day culture. July 4 is one of the most fun days of the summer.

Vietnam by Hoang Yen Pham

Hello, My name is Hoang Yen Pham. I'm 14 years old . I'm from Ho Chi Minh , Vietnam. My favorite tv shows are cartoons and I read novels. I'll give you information about my country...................

Vietnam: about size of New Mexico, Vietnam's long eastern coastline borders the Gulf of Tonkin, the South China Sea, and the gulf of Thailand. In the north lies the fertile delta of the Red River. A delta is an area of land formed by soil deposits at the mouth of a river. In the south you find the wide, swampy delta at the Mekong River. Monsoons bring wet and dry seasons.

Farmers grow large amounts of rice, sugarcane, cassava, sweet potatoes, corn, bananas, and coffee in river deltas. Vietnam's mountain forests provide wood, and the South China Sea yields large catches of fish.

Northern and central Vietnam are rich in coal, natural gas, and other mineral resources, Most factories lie in the south, which is a bustling commercial area. Cement, fertilizer, steel, clothing, and bicycles are manufactured. Years of warfare and strick government controls have kept Vietnam's industries from fully developing.

With 79.5 million people, Vietnam has the largest populartion in mainland Southeast Asia. About 80 percent live in the countryside. The largest urban area is Ho Chi Minh(HOH CHee MIHN)City, Named for the country's first leader. It used to be call Saigon (sy GAHN). Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, is locatedin the north. Most people are Buddhists and belong to the Vietnamese ethnic group. The rest are Chinese, Cambodians, and other Vietnamese ethnic groups. Vietnamese is the major language, but Chinese and Enlish are also spoken.

The ancestors of Vietnam's people came from China more than 2,000 years ago. From the late 1800s to the mid-1950s, Vietnam was under the French in 1954. The Communist government controlled northern Vietnam, while an America-supported government ruled the south. In the 1960s, fighting between these two groups led to the Vietnam War. During this 10-year conflict, more than 3 million Americans helped fight against the Communist. The war was costly, and the United States eventually withdrew its forces in 1973. Within two years, the Communist had captured the south. Many thousands of people fled Vietnam, settling in the United States and other countries.

In recent years, Vietnam's Communist leaders have opended the country to Western ideas, businesses, and tourists. They also have loosened government controls on the economy. In these two ways, the Communist leaders hope to raise Vietnam's standard of living

VietNam by Le Chi Pham and Hoang Yen Pham

Hi!My name is Le Chi Pham .I come from Vietnam . I 'm 15 years old .My father's name is Andy and my mother 's name is My Phuong , I have two sisters . I will speak about my country . Vietnam is a socialist republic. It is the easternmost country on the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia . It is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest , Cambodia to the southwest , and the South China Sea to the east . The people population is 85,262,356 as of 2008

In the beginning.........

According to traditional legends, Viet Nam was formed when King Lac Long Quan (also known as the "Dragon Lord of Lac" or the "Dragon Lord of the Seas") married Princess Au Co (a Chinese immortal and descended from the High Mountains). She bore him 100 eggs, out of which 100 sons were born . they soon established a nation that stretched from southern China to northern indonesia.

However, the King and the princess became convinced that their different origins would ultimately make them unhappy, so they separated . Princess Au Co took 50 of the sons with her back into the mountains while King Lac Long Quan took the other 50 sons and ruled over the lowlands . After the King died in 2879 B.C, his eldest son, Hung Vuong established the Hung dynasty, and he is regarded as the real founder of the Vietnamese nation and of the first Vietnamese dynasty.

This legend symbolizes the importance of uniting the two main geographic and cultural areas of Vietnam -- the mountains (representing the north ) and lowlands (representing the south ) in forming one united country. It is theme that gets played out repeatedly in Vietnam is history and is also symbolized by the spelling of "Viet Nam" as two words, rather than one .

The Hung dynasty produced 18 kings, each of whom ruled for 150 years. At this time, the nation was named Van Lang. This dynasty was then overthrown by a neighboring king in 258 B.C. He established the new kingdom of Au Lac and built his capital at Phuc An, whose remains still exist today in the village of Co Loa, located west of Hanoi.
Fifty years later, a chinese general, Trieu Da, conquered the kingdom and formed the new nation of Nam Viet. Many scholars and Vietnamese consider this to be the end of historical legend and the true beginning of modern Vietnamese history. The next 100 or so years saw much conflict between King Trieu Da and the Han emperors of China. Finally, in 111 B.C, Nam Viet was conquered and incorporated into the Chinese empire
