Thanksgiving By "Mr,Sancho" aka (Jorge)

In November 1620, the pilgrims came to what is now the United States aboard a small cargo ship, the Mayflower, the days the first feast of celebration of Thanksgiving was in October1621 ,Wampanoags and colonists shavenison, duck, turkey, clams, shellfish, corn pudding pumpkin, dried berries and other local edibles.

The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 to commemorate the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony after a harsh winter. In that year Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving. The colonists celebrated it as a traditional English harvest feast, to which they invitedthe indians. it can be stressful, unless you are part of the perfect family or lucky enough to simply have to show up to a dinner where everyone is happy to see you, serve you, give you the big comfy recliner and let you watch football all day. Most of us face traveling through the holiday rush, dealing with family members we pretend we’re not related to the rest of the year and cooking enormous amounts of food that no one really needs to eat.
I hope that you are looking forward to the holiday, but if you aren’t, here are some funny Thanksgiving videos to make you laugh a little.
I’ve only attempted to cook a turkey once (I’m now a vegetarian) but it isn’t all fun and games. Watch this woman struggle with a big slippery bird:
Historians have also recorded other ceremonies of thanks among European settlers in North America, including British colonists in Berkeley Plantation, Virginia. At this site near the Charles River in December of 1619, a group of British settlers led by Captain John Woodlief knelt in prayer and pledged "Thanksgiving" to God for their healthy arrival after a long voyage across the Atlantic. This event has been acknowledged by some scholars and writers as the official first Thanksgiving among European settlers on record. Whether at Plymouth, Berkeley Plantation, or throughout the Americas, celebrations of thanks have held great meaning and importance over time. The legacy of thanks, and particularly of the feast, have survived the centuries as people throughout the United States gather family, friends, and enormous amounts of food for their yearly Thanksgiving meal.

The number of days the first "Thanksgiving" is in November 1620.

Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4Th Thursday of November, which this year (2008) is November 27Th.

The pilgrims were happy and decided celebrate special day. they corn, clams, turkey and vegetables.
The Indians helped the pilgrims. In 1620 the Pilgrims come to what is now the United States.

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving Day is one of America's most beloved and widely celebrated holidays.
The day before Thanksgiving traditionally is the busiest travel day of the year in the United States; the day after, is always one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
America is a nation of people who have come from many countries. We are a melting pot.
Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to remember to be thankful for the many contributions all Americans have made to preserve our existence.
Originally set aside by the American Pilgrims in 1621, Thanksgiving Day officially became a national holiday in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln issued the Thanksgiving Proclamation.
It is a time traditionally set aside to thank God for the good things in life. It is a time for turkey dinners and football, family and friends, and warmth and happiness.
America's favorite holiday started when Pilgrim colonists and 90 Wimping Indians, led by Chief Massasoit, gathered together to celebrate a harvest feast in Plymouth, Mass.
Over the years, the 1621 secular harvest feast merged with solemn religious observances of prayer and feasting and Forefathers Day, which celebrated the Pilgrim's landing at Plymouth, to become the Thanksgiving we know today.
On October 3, 1789, George Washington issued his Thanksgiving Proclamation, designating for "the People of the United States a day of public thanks-giving" to be held on "Thursday the 26Th day of November," 1789, marking the first national celebration of a holiday that has become commonplace in today's households.
While subsequent presidents failed to maintain this tradition, it was Washington's original proclamation that guided Abraham Lincoln's more famous Thanksgiving Proclamation in 1863.
In 1777, the Continental Congress proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national holiday.
At the end of the Civil War, President Lincoln declared two national Thanksgivings with the hope of healing a tattered nation.
The first was Aug. 6 to celebrate the victory at Gettysburg and the second, the last Thursday in November.
In 1941, the latter date was permanently established by an act of Congress.
The exact date of that first Thanksgiving in 1621 is uncertain, but it is thought to have been towards the end of September.
Edward Winslow, third governor of Plymouth Colony, jotted down some notes of that historic day.
"The celebration and feasting went on for three days and included games and recreation," Winslow's writings said.
The feast included 90 Indian guests, who brought venison from five deer, and 50 Pilgrims, who provided wild ducks, geese, swans and turkeys.
Research reveals that cranberry sauce was not common until sugar became readily available for sweetening the tart cranberry.
The menu, however, did include lobster, roasted goose, boiled turkey, a pudding of Indian corn and dried whorl berries, fricassee of rabbit, cod, roasted ducks, stewed pumpkin, roasted venison, and pudding.
Table settings were primitive by today's standards.
Don't tell the kids, but forks were not provided as they were not commonly used in 1621.
However, large cloth napkins were used both to serve and to eat.
Originally, napkins were used not only for wiping one's fingers and face, but to pick up hot morsels of food or to hold a roast for carving.
Most eating was done with the hands.
The concept of Thanksgiving was not new to the citizens of the new United States.
Colonists, even before the Pilgrims, often established Thank Days to mark certain occasions.
These one-time events could occur at any time of the year and were usually more solemn than the Thanksgiving we observe today, emphasizing prayer and spiritual reflection.
Go ahead, enjoy the meal, the family gathering, and the football games this Thanksgiving.
But don't forget to say thanks.

Every family in the United State celebrate the thanksgiving day,and they eat turkey, and pumpkin pie. and many fruits and vegetables ,Thanksgiving Day in America is a time to offer thanks, of family gatherings and holiday meals. A time of turkeys, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. A time for Indian corn, holiday parades and giant balloons .

Our modern Thanksgiving repast is centered around the turkey, but that certainly wasn't the case at the pilgrim's feasts. Their meals included many different meats. Vegetable dishes, one of the main components of our modern celebration, didn't really play a large part in the feast mentality of the seventeenth century.Depending on the time of year, many vegetables weren't available to the colonist.

Of all the Thanksgiving symbols the Turkey has become the most well known. The wild turkey is native to northern Mexico and the eastern United States.

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is a traditional North American holiday, and is a form of harvest festival . In November 1620, the Pilgrims landed in America. They were cold, tired, and sick from their long trip across the Atlantic Ocean in their ship - the Mayflower .The climate was cold and they did not have houses or anything . As a result, many of Pilgrims died before the summer came.

Luckily, In 1621, The year Samoset, an Abnaki Indian from Mannie, walked into the Pilgrim' village shouting " Welcome, Englishmen ! " . He had learned broken English previous contact with fishermen and traders. Through Samost , the Polgrims met Squanto, who taught them to use fish as fertilizer when planting corn, pumpkins and beans . They also showed them how to catch fish, hunt deer . The Wampanoag had organized government and religion and were able farmers, fishermen, hunters and gatherers, so the tribe had ample and varied food.

They called it as thanksgiving and Abraham Lincoln became a president . He made it a holiday for the whole country . Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November .

Thanksgiving started in November 1620 because that day the Pilgrims landed in America. They came to America by ship .The name of the ship was the Mayflower. It took 65 days from England to America,102 passengers were boarded in the Mayflower.32 young children were boarded in the ship and 2 passengers died across the Atlantic ocean,2 children were born on the Mayflower ship.41 men signed the Mayflower ship compact establishing laws in the new world. In 1621 Samoset, an Abnaki Indian from main, walked onto the Pilgrims' village shouting welcome Englishman. he has learn broken English from previous contact with fisherman and traders.Through Samoset the Pilgrims met Squanto who taught them to use fish as fertilizer when planting corn, pumpkins and beans, and established friendly relations with the local Wampoanoag trib. The Wampoanoag had organized government and region and were able farmers, fisherman, hunters and gatherers so the terrible ample and varied food. What foods topped the table at the first harvest feast? Historians aren't completely certain about the full bounty, but it's safe to say the pilgrims weren't gobbling up pumpkin pie or playing with their mashed potatoes. Following is a list of the foods that were available to the colonists at the time of the 1621 feast. However, the only two items that historians know for sure were on the menu are venison and wild fowl, which are mentioned in primary sources. The most detailed description of the "First Thanksgiving" comes from Edward Winslow from A Journal of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, in 1621:

The pilgrims didn't use forks; they ate with spoons, knives, and their fingers. They wiped their hands on large cloth napkins which they also used to pick up hot morsels of food. Salt would have been on the table at the harvest feast, and people would have sprinkled it on their food. Pepper, however, was something that they used for cooking but wasn't available on the table.
In the seventeenth century, a person's social standing determined what he or she ate. The best food was placed next to the most important people. People didn't tend to sample everything that was on the table (as we do today), they just ate what was closest to them.
Serving in the seventeenth century was very different from serving today. People weren't served their meals individually. Foods were served onto the table and then people took the food from the table and ate it. All the servers had to do was move the food from the place where it was cooked onto the table.
Pilgrims didn't eat in courses as we do today. All of the different types of foods were placed on the table at the same time and people ate in any order they chose. Sometimes there were two courses, but each of them would contain both meat dishes, puddings, and sweets

One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living.

History traces Halloween back to the ancient religion of the Celtics in Ireland. The Celtic people were very conscious of the spiritual world and had their own ideas of how they could gain access to it - such as by helping their over 300 gods to defeat their enemies in battle, or by imitating the gods in showing cleverness and cunning.

July 4 written by Viridiana Valderrama

The original Declaration has now faded badly.

July 4 is America's birthday. On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed. The thirteen colonies no longer belonged to England. Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States of America commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the war ended in 1783, July 4 became a holiday in some places. But, In 1941 July 4 officially became a legal holiday. The task begun on July 4, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, was not actually completed until August. Nonetheless, the 4 of July has been accepted as the official anniversary of United States independence from Britain. By the early 1800s the traditions of parades, picnics, and fireworks were firmly established as part of American Independence Day culture. July 4 is one of the most fun days of the summer.
